Process of Project

The flow of work in Sugar Crush Miri

Before

The team was divided in five different teams, Management, Marketing, Media, Sales and Finance, to ensure a smooth workflow throughout the entire project. Then, a group representative contacted the charity of choice (The Lost Food Project) to collaborate with. After that, we determined the type of business we would be doing (Food and Beverage). After this was decided, a team name was formed and we contacted two local businesses, Julia's Home Desserts and Te'Amo Shake Mansion, to collaborate with a mutual agreement of 70% of the revenue going back to the local businesses and 30% being donated to The Lost Food Project. Then, we set up an Instagram account to promote the business as our targeted audience mainly uses Instagram as their daily social media platform.

During

After everything has been planned, our business began operating late in March. We would open orders from every Sunday to Wednesday, then delivering the goods to customers every Saturday. Every week is a different menu selection so that we can keep our consumers curious and adventurous with their taste. The team has also ultimately decided to divide each other in to two teams which is Pick-up and Delivery team as some customers prefer to pick-up their orders from the Curtin Malaysia campus, while some prefer it if their goods was delivered to them. On top of that, our team made sure to make weekly posts for our Facebook page to raise awareness and educate the public about food waste and how it affects civilians in the country.

Conclusion

To summarise the outcome of our project, we have managed to raise RM 818.10 to be donated to The Lost Food Project, and also raise a revenue of RM 2239.20 towards the local businesses we collaborated with.

By donating to The Lost Food Project, we are also supporting their main cause which is to provide food to those who do not have access to quality food. With the recent rise in food ingredients, it is crucial for us as a community to support one another, especially those who are in need. Sugar Crush Miri is indeed happy to be able to support this cause and be a part of something good.

As a group of young students, it is without a doubt that we had faced a few conflicts throughout this project. Despite the disagreements, we managed to pull through and work together so that we can continue with this project with ease as our main objective for this project is to spread awareness regarding food waste and at the same time, supporting those who have no access to food.
